Does Cadillac XT5 Have Blind Spot Monitoring? (Explained)

Every vehicle comes with mirrors, one on each side and one up the middle of the two front seats. These mirrors help you stay aware of what is going on around your vehicle.

However, as helpful as this feature is, it isn’t enough as there are “blind spots” that these mirrors usually fail to pick up.

That’s where the Blind Spot Monitor feature comes in. So does the Cadillac XT5 possess this recent innovation, and how does it function?

The Cadillac XT5 has blind-spot monitoring. It’s a car equipped with numerous modern safety and comfort features, and one of them is blind-spot monitoring. With this feature, you can have total coverage of the proximity of other road users or objects to your car. In this article, I’ll discuss all you need to know about the XT5’s BSM.

What Is Blind Spot Monitoring?

Blind Spot Monitoring is a system found on modern vehicles that consist of a set of sensors to sense movements around your car.

You can find these sensors in the two side mirrors and the rear bumper. The number of sensors and their design differs from car brand to car brand and even model to model sometimes.

If these sensors can pick up the proximity of vehicles around you, they’d be useless if they weren’t designed to pass this information on to the driver. Gladly, this isn’t the case.

When these sensors detect a vehicle or object close to your car, they alert the driver of this.

They can do this through one or both of two ways—audible and visual warning. A visual warning is more common as BSMs with audible alerts are common in the high-end trims of vehicle models.

A good share of vehicles with BSM also complements the sensors with a camera.

Some years ago, this feature could only be found in luxury cars and high-end trims of cars, but as the cost of tech dropped in recent years, so did the scarcity of this feature.

The majority of decent cars today offer blind-spot monitoring, with a considerable percentage of these also having a camera.

With a camera complimenting your BSM, you don’t just get to know that there’s a car within proximity but also see “that” car through a screen usually found down the middle of the front seats

BSM is just one of the many recent safety technologies in modern cars. BSM hardly comes alone these days as car brands keep improving features and adding new ones to beat their competitors.

Features like the rear cross-traffic alert are on even basic trims of car models released in the past three years.

An increase in safety sure does raise the feeling of luxury to new heights.

Although tons of accidents still occur every day to vehicles with BSM and more, it sure is helpful and a step in the right direction.

Does Every Model Of The Cadillac XT5 Come With Blind Spot Monitoring?

Yes, every model of the Cadillac XT5 so far has blind-spot monitoring. The XT5 series of Cadillacs came into existence in 2017.

There’s no way an SUV released anytime from 2017 till date can come without safety features like BSM, rear cross-traffic, lane keep assist, cross-traffic alert, and lane change alert and have good sales.

Knowing this, GM has equipped all five models of the XT5 with blind-spot monitoring. Yes, every model comes with this feature, but what’s it like in each?

In this article, I’ll be covering the Blind Spot Monitoring system of every Cadillac XT5 model.

#1. 2017 Cadillac XT5

The 2017 model of the XT5 comes with a side blind zone alert. As the name suggests, this BSM system is only found on the sides of your XT5, unlike other BSM systems that have sensors at the rear. Read more about Side Detection System whether this is available or not.

Nevertheless, this feature is very effective in helping you avoid collisions with vehicles coming from your side.

The BSM system of the 2017 XT5 has visual warnings. If the sensors pick up something, they’ll notify you with signals instead of through some form of audio.

For example, if the system detects a vehicle near your side blind spots, lights begin flashing in the side mirrors to inform you.

#2. 2018 Cadillac XT5

The 2018 model of the Cadillac XT5 also comes with BSM. In addition, the 2018 model brought a good number of upgrades to the features of the 2017 model.

One of the areas where improvement is visible is in its blind-spot monitoring system.

The sensors are positioned in spots that cover all your blind spots, and there’s better accuracy in its detection of approaching objects.

I’m not saying the 2017 model has a poor XT5, no. However, there would be no point in making new models if changes and upgrades aren’t implemented.

So a couple of other safety technologies were improved/adjusted in the 2018 model.

#3. 2019 Cadillac XT5

The 2019 model of the Cadillac XT5 possesses a standard blind-spot monitoring system.

Well, many car brands have taken the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) game to new heights, and GM has shown that they can keep up.

As a result, the 2019 XT5 comes with safety features like collision warning, collision braking, rear cross-traffic, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, 360° camera view, etc.

#4. 2020 Cadillac XT5

You’d get a BSM system if you buy a 2020 model of the XT5. The 2020 model of the XT5 uses numerous features to make sure your blind spots aren’t blind spots.

This XT5 uses cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and more. These features are in areas that give you 100 percent coverage.

However, GM ensured that the BSM system remains easy to use despite these added features.

#5. 2021 Cadillac XT5

The 2021 XT5 had more noticeable changes in the exterior’s build than key tech features. In a 2021 XT5, you’ll get an elite BSM system equipped with audible and visual warnings.

Depending on the Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) you trigger, you’ll get either flashing lights or audio warnings that’ll keep going until the sensors can no longer pick up any danger.

#6. 2022 Cadillac XT5

You’d get a BSM system if you buy a 2022 model of the XT5. The 2022 model of the XT5 makes use of numerous features to make sure your blind spots aren’t really blind spots.

This XT5 uses cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and more. These features are fixed in areas that give you 100 percent coverage.

GM ensured that the BSM system remains easy to use despite these added features.

Pros And Cons Of XT5 Blind Spot Monitoring

The pros of BSM? There are lots of them. If you’ve read this article from its beginning, you definitely can think of some pros for yourself. Cons of BSM?

Well, that’s a tricky one. What could be the negatives of a system to increase your safety? I did a lot of research, gathered people’s opinions, and did some analysis.

Yes, some pros and cons can be ignored, but the cons to having a BSM system. First off, let’s list the pros.

#1. PROS

  • Prevention of accidents.
  • It makes changing lanes easier.
  • It makes driving more comfortable as the driver doesn’t need to do a lot of neck-turning to make sure he doesn’t hit anyone or get hit.

#2. CONS

  • It can give a false sense of security. You shouldn’t drive with lowered caution as good as BSM systems because you feel the warnings always have you covered. You should remain careful and watchful, but a luxurious BSM system can make this hard.
  • Warnings can be a cause of panic for some people.

Conclusion

Yes, I was able to put together some cons, but the benefits and importance of a BSM system cannot be debated.

Gladly, every model of the Cadillac XT5 possesses a standard blind-spot monitoring system. Visit your owner’s manual for more information on these features. Good luck!
