Should the Gladiator be considered? Does it have Adaptive cruise control?

In recent years, the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck has come equipped with the Adaptive Cruise Control feature. Since 2019 Jeep has taken huge strides in its comfort game, you can find many features designed to make driving less stressful even in basic trims, and the ACC is one of these.

Does The Jeep Gladiator Come With Adaptive Cruise Control?

The Jeep Gladiator comes with the Adaptive Cruise Control as one of its safety and driver-assist features. The Gladiator is one of Jeep’s most recent car series.

Unfortunately, we’ve only gotten to see just three models of this beauty, and each one that comes keeps out-doing the last. 

Like I said earlier, Jeep has taken huge strides in improving its comfort game since 2019.

With the Gladiator just having three models so far:

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator, 2021 Jeep Gladiator, and the 2022 Jeep Gladiator, all models of this series come with features designed to maximize road comfort, and one of them is Adaptive cruise control. 

Knowing if the Jeep Gladiator has adaptive cruise control is one thing.

Knowing if every trim of the Gladiator has this feature is another, and if that isn’t the case, you should ensure you know which trims have it, so you can know if the trims that possess this feature fit your budget.

Unfortunately, this feature isn’t available in every Jeep Gladiator trim, which is the case for all three models produced by Jeep so far. 

Here’s the thing, Adaptive Cruise Control is considered the peak of automobile comfort. Unfortunately, as of 2022, this isn’t a feature in all trims of standard vehicle models.

If Jeep put this feature in every model, I guess they will lose that sense of hierarchy amongst their trims, but also, its affordability will most likely reduce as features like this require expensive tech.

So now that we’ve established that not every Gladiator trim out, there has Adaptive cruise control, which trims do?

Well, adaptive cruise control is only available in three trims, which are; 

• Jeep Gladiator SportS 
• Jeep Gladiator Overland 
• Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. 

This feature isn’t available for the base trim, the Jeep Gladiator Sport. Even at that, there’s still much to love about the Jeep Gladiator’s base trim.

It comes with numerous other safety features like Forward-Collision Warning, cross path detection, etc.

What Is Adaptive Cruise Control?

Adaptive cruise control is simply advanced cruise control. The difference in the advancement of cruise control lies in the word adaptive.

Adaptive cruise control is cruise control that can “think” for itself as long as you let it. 

Unlike the conventional cruise control, where you get to set the speed, ACC determines the speed for you.

This system automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed to maintain a safe distance from the cars behind you and ahead of you.

Many experts deem this technology a key feature of generations of intelligent automobiles.

There are so much more advancements that can be made on this feature, as it seems to be a huge step towards the goal of cars being able to drive their owners independently.

We still have a long way to go before achieving that. But, unfortunately, if it does become a reality, it’ll be the next generations that benefit from it.

For now, though, all we’ll be getting from technologies of this kind is improved safety and comfort.

Further, adaptive cruise control can even reduce accidents and fatalities from drunk driving.

How Does Adaptive Cruise Control Work?

Adaptive cruise control uses sensors to control the speed of your vehicle.

So how does it do this? Well, it can’t see the vehicles around you, but with sensors, it can tell the distance between the closest moving object in front of you and your vehicle.

With this ability, it is programmed to slow down the car if the vehicle in front of you reduces its speed and stops (swiftly or slowly as the case may be) if the vehicle in front of you stops. 

ACC doesn’t only slow your vehicle down but increases its speed as you probably will have vehicles behind you.

So as the vehicle in its front increases in speed, so will the vehicle, giving you a safe and stress-free ride.

How To Turn On And Off Adaptive Cruise Control?

The specific controls for ACC will differ from vehicle to vehicle and, in extreme cases, even from model to model or trim to trim.

Jeep vehicles with this feature, like the Gladiator Rubicon, are quite easy to use. Most Jeep vehicles, if not all, have the buttons that control ACC on the steering wheel. 

You can easily activate and deactivate ACC with just a few button clicks with these buttons.

The ease with which you can control this feature is so helpful because as intelligent as these sensors are, they are still extremely limited.

You may need to go faster for whatever reason or even much slower. The ACC system cannot help with this.

How To Set The Speed For Adaptive Cruise Control? 

To efficiently use that Adaptive Cruise Control, you need to set the speed the ACC will move at in certain situations.

And it’s then the job of the ACC to tell when these situations are happening and adjust your vehicle to fit the rule.

For example, you get to decide how fast your vehicle will move when there’s a certain distance between your car and the one ahead of it. 

You can do this with the +/- buttons on your wheel, or on some vehicles, you can accelerate to your desired speed and press a button that’ll make the ACC remember that speed.

Remember, the Adaptive cruise control is a regulator, not an auto-drive feature. Hence, it only works with preset speed for a specific situation.

Thinking by itself does not include determining speed but discerning situations and applying the required speed.

Setting The Distance

Working in tandem with the set speed is the set distance. Yes, the ACC will automatically slow down your car when the car ahead slows down, but how much space should it give when it does so?

That is what you need to determine. ACC systems usually have short, medium, and long-distance options, which you can change while you drive.
