How Do I Turn On Ford Explorer’s Heads Up Display?
“Is it always active, or do I turn it on?” is a question most people, or at least many people who discover the Heads Up Display feature, ask, and it’s a very logical question.
However, if the HUD system is always active when driving and you can never turn it off, that takes the importance of the system to drivers to a whole new level.
If you can turn it on and off, it remains a fancy tech that drivers can choose to use when they like seeing and getting all the benefits of every dollar they spent to purchase that vehicle.
Well, it’s the latter; fortunately, I say fortunately because as useful as the HUD system is, some drivers understandably may not feel comfortable driving with it on their windscreen.

I’ll start with how to turn on your HUD system; you’re not making any changes to it if it’s not active, so let’s get on with that first.
#1. Steps To Turn On HUD On Your Ford Explorer
- You’ll need to have your vehicle running to use features like the Heads Up Display. I know this seems like a really obvious step that everyone should know, but I still love to point out everything, down to the basics. So get your Ford Explorer running if you intend to use the HUD feature.
- Now, when you’ve gotten your vehicle running and you’re seated, look at the right of your steering wheel. You’ll see those buttons you probably see every day and ignore or use just one or two.
Today, you’ll be adding another button to the list of buttons on your steering wheel’s right. Next, click on the “HUD” button; it’s the first button if you’re counting from the left. - When you’ve done this, the Heads Up Display menu will appear in your Ford Explorer’s instrument cluster; this is sometimes referred to as the dashboard.
So, you know that screen behind your steering wheel that shows some of the information you want to display on your windscreen? Look there, and you’ll find the HUD menu. - Press the “OK” button to check the HUD box, which shows that the Heads Up Display button is currently active. To turn it off, just uncheck it by doing the same thing.
