Can A Cadillac XT5 Tow A Camper? (Must Know Things)

As much as car brands always look for comfort-giving additions when making plans for a model, strength is also essential in 2022.

There’s no better show of strength than being able to tow huge weights. Numbers like the maximum tow weight are checked when people buy a new truck or SUV.

So how does the Cadillac XT5 fair at towing, then? Can it tow a camper?

The Cadillac XT5 can tow a camper. Yes, it can tow a camper, but not every camper. You’ll have to pick a relatively lite camper as the Cadillac’s towing capacity sits at 3500 lbs. Confirm the size of the camper you intend on towing is within the XT5’s towing capacity before making preparations to tow.

Can A Cadillac XT5 Pull A Camper?

All models of the XT5 series Cadillac can pull campers, although the maximum camper weight they can handle differs from model to model and trim to trim.

Campers can have any weight between 1000 pounds and 9000 pounds. With more modifications, some campers can even weigh more.

The weight of the average camper stands at 5200 pounds! They’re not vehicles that can be easily dragged along, and understandably so.

The XT5 with the biggest towing capacity cannot even tow an average camper!

Yes, with the weight of the average camper sitting at 5200 and the max tow capacity of any XT5 out there being 3500 pounds, it won’t work.

There are campers out there that can be easily towed by an XT5 as long as you handle everything properly.

“Everything” refers to what is needed to be done to your XT5 to ensure it can safely pull another car or object.

As I said earlier, campers can weigh between 1000 pounds and 9000 pounds.

With a max tow weight of 3500, your vehicle can easily pull along all campers that weigh any figure between 1000 and 3500 pounds.

Knowing that the average weight of a camper is 5200, you may find the fact your vehicle can handle campers that weigh up to 3500 pointless.

You shouldn’t; there are still many campers out there that fall within the towing capabilities of an XT5.

With the proper modifications, quality campers can even weigh around 2500 pounds!

So although the XT5 isn’t the strongest SUV in the world, its towing capacity shouldn’t make your head dip. You’ve still got a fantastic ride!

Cadillac XT5 Towing Capacity

I’ve already stated that an XT5 can tow weights of up to 3500 pounds.

Is this true for every model they’ve produced and every trim? No, unfortunately, this isn’t the case, far from it.

The XT5 had its first model released in 2017, and we’ve received new models every year since then, apart from 2022.

It means we’ve got five models of the XT5 with the different trims that come with them.

So what’s the respective towing capacity of these models and trims?

#1. 2017 Cadillac XT5

You can tow weights of up to 3500 pounds with this beauty. The best thing about the 2017 Cadillac XT5 is that all trims have the same towing capacity, 3500 pounds.

It may be because it was the first model, and they wanted to make a good impression.

If that was the case, it did work, as the Cadillac XT5 has established itself as a top competitor in the SUV market

#2. 2018 Cadillac XT5

Like its predecessor, the towing capacity of the 2018 Cadillac XT5 is 3500 pounds or 1588 KG.

A lot of people try to step out the towing limits, and while this may not affect your vehicle badly if it’s a few more pounds, an extra hundred could have noticeable adverse effects on your ride

#3. 2019 Cadillac XT5

Still 3500 pounds for all trims. Improvements were made in the 2019 model.

Comfort and road safety technologies were upgraded, but these improvements don’t include the towing capacity for the 2019 XT5.

You’ll only be able to drag along 3500 pounds like the 2017 and 2018 models.

#4. 2020 Cadillac XT5

Unlike previous models, the 2020 model is the first model that brings variations in the towing capacity of its trims.

I guess Cadillac felt it was time to begin cutting down on base trim features. Well, the 2020 model has four trims.

So what are their towing capacities?

  • Luxury 4DR = 1000 Pounds
  • Premium Luxury 4DR = 3500 Pounds
  • Sport 4DR = 3500 Pounds
  • Premium Luxury 4DR(3.6L 6CYL 9A) = 3500 Pounds

#5. 2021 Cadillac XT5

This Cadillac, like that last, has its towing capacity varying from trim to trim. In the 2021 model, there are just two trims, although modifications can lengthen the list of trims.

So officially, we have just two trims in the 2021 Cadillac XT5. The trims are the 2021 Cadillac XT5 Standard and 2021 Cadillac XT5 Sport.

The sport has numerous upgrades on the standard trim, and one of these is its Cadillac towing capacity.

  • The standard trim of this Cadillac XT5 can tow weights of up to 1000 pounds.
  • The Cadillac XT5 Sport can tow weights of up to 3500 pounds.

Things To Consider Before Towing With Your Cadillac XT5

Knowing the towing capacity of your car is crucial, probably the most crucial, but there’s still more you need to consider before you set out to tow your vehicle. It may tow your boat as well.

If all of these factors aren’t considered, you may not be able to tow successfully.

In some cases, this could leave severe negative impacts on your vehicle. What are these factors?

#1. Gross combined weight rating

It is the sum of all the weights your vehicle is carrying. It includes the driver, the passengers, cargo in the vehicle doing the towing, the trailer, and cargo in the trailer.

There’s a maximum GCWR that your vehicle can handle, and you must stick to it.

So yeah, even if your towing is with the recommended capacity, it can still be a problem if you exceed the GCWR.

#2. Gross Axle Weight Rating

As the name implies, it is the maximum weight placed on one of your vehicle’s axles.

So while stacking up your car and making adjustments for the trailing load, ensure you do not overload any of your axles. Confirm the GAWR and always stick to it.

Where can you find your GAWR and GCWR, though? Every XT5 I’ve looked at has information on vehicle weights in the owner’s manual and on a sticker on the driver’s door.

So even if you can’t find the sticker in your vehicle, you should be able to find it in the manual.

#3. Trailer Hitch Receivers

It is a necessity for towing vehicles. When buying an XT5, you have the option of getting a high-class trailer hitch installed at the rear of your car.

Still, it’s possible that when you bought your ride, you had no plans of using it for towing, but now you do.

Does this mean you can’t and will never use your Cadillac for towing?

No. You have two options. You can visit the dealership you bought your XT5 from and use the high-class trailer hitch option or buy one from a third party.

Before visiting the dealership, you should know that you’ll pay for the hitch and its installation.

If you decide to buy a trailer hitch from a third party, choose a hitch receiver that supports the maximum weight that your XT5 can tow.

I also recommend you go for a weight-distribution hitch with sway control, making towing less burdensome for your vehicle. Does Cadillac XT5 Have Park Assist? (Let’s Find Out)

Conclusion

Be it a Camper or anything else, the Cadillac XT5 possesses the strength to tow weights of thousands of pounds.

All you need to do is ensure you work with the weight recommendations in mind.

Also, ensure you’ve got the best Trailer Brake Controllers and Trailer Hitch Receivers, as these are necessary for safe and legal towing. Good luck!
