Cadillac XT5, which still has the Automatic Park Assist feature, works with sensors to search and detect a good parking space that could be perpendicular or parallel.

It applies the brake, adjusts the gears, and steers your vehicle at a very low speed to the right parking space.

Now, this automatic action should never be a reason for the driver to lose control of his vehicle. You must still be in control.

Please note that the Park Assist System doesn’t detect pedestrians, Cyclists, Animals, or objects on the road.

It doesn’t function like the Automatic Collision Braking System or other safety Assist Features.

The automatic Parking Assist uses sensors specially designed and placed on the sides of the vehicle to search for a suitable parking space for the car.

The sensors search for a safe and suitable parking spot for the vehicle, and once it successfully detects one, it sends a signal to the Driver through the safety alert seat or a beeping sound, depending on the model.

The system will steer the vehicle automatically, apply the brake and shift the gears to move the car at a very low speed that’s right for when attempting to park.

At this time, the feature will inform you when to take your hands off the steering so it can do the vehicle’s maneuvering well.

  • To activate this feature, you can do so by pressing the soft-touch button or the hard switch close to the infotainment display. It solely depends on the model you’re driving.
  • To search for a parking space on your right side, turn on the right turn signal or select the right side from the Infotainment display or the Cadillac User Experience. Immediately the sensors on the right side start looking for a space around the vicinity of your car that suits your vehicle.
  • For the Parking assist feature to detect spots for packing, your vehicle must be moving forward at a speed below 18mph.
  • Eventually, when it detects a space with enough space to contain the vehicle, it’ll send an alert in a beep, or the driver safety alert seat vibrates. Then, the infotainment display will instruct you to stop and change your gear.
  • The vehicle must move at a very low speed all through the automatic parking process. 
  • Still stay alert in the vehicle all through this period. Be ready to override the feature by steering manually, applying brakes, and selecting gears when the need arises. Doing all those things will deactivate the automatic parking System instantly.
  • Instructions which include when to take your hands away from the steering will display on the instrument panel or the Cadillac User Experience. A vibration might even occur on the steering wheel as a notification too.
  • At this time, the packing begins. Automatically, the vehicle will steer and apply the brakes effectively till the car is packed in the spot the sensors detected and then shift the gears between forwarding and Reverse Until there’s no need for more maneuvers.
  • In some cases where only small parking spaces are available, the system will have to carry out the maneuvers many times.
