Jeep JK Stock Suspension Measurements? (Follow The Correct Way)

Suspensions are made for the Jeep Wrangler(JK). Not really, but few standard vehicles out there look better with Suspensions than the Jeep Wrangler(JK).

You’re probably a big fan of suspension lifts on the JK if you’re reading this. You may have ignored lifts when you got your JK, or you did, and now your lifts are malfunctioning.

Changing them will require knowledge of the stock measurements. What are they?

The stock suspension has a spring that measures 9 3/8″. The stock suspension comes with a lift of 13 3/8, which means you’ve only got a 4″ inch tire lift for your Wrangler. If you’re getting a suspension, I suggest you get one from a Jeep dealership, as they’ve got suspensions built explicitly for the Wrangler.

What Kind of Suspension Does a Jeep Wrangler Come With?

The suspension or suspension lift kit differs from model to model and trim to trim.

Jeep offers a “standard” suspension for the base trim and a couple of other trims of the Wrangler, but what this “standard” suspension constitutes evolves every year.

For high-end trims like the Sahara, Jeep offers heavy-duty suspension.

The standard suspensions aren’t poor, but they aren’t the high-end quality expected.

So if you want the very best suspensions on your base trim Wrangler JK, you’ll, unfortunately, have to get a suspension lift kit elsewhere.

The good news is that some Jeep dealerships make it possible for you to get official high-end lift kits right there, even if you’re not buying a high-end trim like the Sahara or Rubicon.

How Does The Jeep Wrangler Suspension Work?

The Jeep Wrangler’s stock suspension has many key features that work together to give your car a lift while still ensuring stability.

Next, I’ll explain these features in detail and how they work together.

#1. Springs and Shocks

Like almost every other system out there, the Wrangler’s suspension system comes with springs and shocks. Newer models of the JK come with coil springs.

So what is the job of the JK’s springs and shocks? It’s simply there to absorb impact. When a vehicle goes over, a bump and impact arise.

Without these springs & shocks, it’ll be the driver & passengers that’ll be on the receiving end of all the impact.

The springs absorb this impact and evenly spread it among all four springs in the Wrangler. In addition, the shocks suppress this impact when it eventually gets to the spring.

Without these shocks, your JK will keep bouncing on the road for quite a while.

#2. Steering Stabilizer

The steering stabilizer is a second shield against bump impacts. They’re there to prevent impact from getting to your Wrangler’s steering.

Springs and shocks cannot handle all the impact that hits your vehicle when you climb a bump, and that’s where steering stabilizers come in.

So even the slightest impact shouldn’t affect the steering movement as it could send you off course.

#3. Sway Bars

Sway bars are essential parts of a Jeep with Suspension lifts. These bars connect the two front tires and the back tires. So how and why do they do this?

When driving with Suspensions, making simple turns would be risky and complicated without sway bars. Turning right will mean your vehicle is leaning the other way in a vehicle with lifts.

It will mean putting excess weight on the left suspension, and in cases where it was a full turn or a sharp turn, the excessive weight on the left suspension will lift the right suspension, and obviously, the right wheel will follow.

Jeep Wrangler JK’s sway bar is designed to keep “that right suspension” down.

As a result, it minimizes the shifting of your car’s weight, which keeps you safe and gives your suspension system longevity. Comparison of Carli Vs Thuren Suspensions.

#4. Adjustable Control Arms

This part is a complicated one. Explaining the role of the control arms in a Wrangler’s suspension will probably need an article of its own.

Yes, it’s that complex because I’d also have to dive into how to use the adjustable control arms after installation.

I’ll just state the two functions of the control arms and provide you with a link where you can get a detailed and accurate explanation of its functions.

The Wrangler’s control arms control and correct the caster’s angle. In addition, it helps the wheel and the steering wheel connect properly.

The second reason why the control arms are essential is that they solve the problem of the wheels being horizontally centered.

#5. Track Bars

These play a role similar to that of control arms. Track bars center the axle side-to-side, while control arms handle the front-to-back.

They keep the axles of your car centered hence preventing them from swaying to either side when you get bumps.

The Wrangler comes with really strong track bars, and this is a necessity because of the size of the tires and the vehicle’s overall wet.

In some Jeep vehicles, standard track bars come installed, with or without other key features of a suspension lift system.

It is because of how essential it is in giving stability during off-road driving.

So yeah, if you’re getting a new suspension pack or kit, ensure that track bars come with it.

You’re not transforming your JK into a beast for off-road days without standard track bars, as they need to work together with the control arms.

Conclusion

The suspension of the Jeep Wrangler is quality.

So regardless of the trim, you get and the suspension measurement that comes with it, you can be sure that you’ve got a kit containing quality materials to give you a good off-road experience.
