What Is Ioniq 5 Eco-Pack? (Read This First)

Hyundai is the first brand to take a step towards the electronic future of automobile engineering with the manufacture of the Ioniq 5.

With a 300-mile range, the best technology, and some inspired interior and exterior décor, the Ioniq 5 is one of the best electric SUVs available.

Although the vehicle comes with excellent features and controls, there are still two additional features, the Ioniq 5 Tech Pack and Eco Pack.

The Ioniq 5 Eco-Pack contains a battery heating system and a heat pump. You can use these features to increase battery life and extend the vehicle’s range by cutting down on the quantity of energy that the car needs to create heat, and this is what the heat pump does. You can also use the feature to warm the batteries and increase their lifespan.

What Is the Hyundai Eco-Pack?

Ioniq 5 Eco Pack?

The Hyundai Eco pack contains the heat pump and the battery heater. The heat pump uses less energy to heat the car’s cabin, thus preserving the vehicle’s energy levels.

The battery heater makes the car charge faster when it is activated. Considering that the Ioniq 5 already charges at lightning speed, the improvement would be quite astounding.

However, users do not have any control over any of the Eco packs functions. Instead, the features function based on the temperatures outside the vehicle.

Many users who have had the car and used the Eco-Pack agree that they can’t operate the system, and the system responds to the drop in temperature.

It means that the feature is handier during the winter season.

There is supposed to be an update this year that will give the owners more control over the operation of the features.

The Eco-Pack is optional for all owners of Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Eco-Pack adds systems that heat the vehicle’s battery and a heat pump.

The heat pump increases the electric powertrain’s efficiency and gets it to work more effectively and at a faster pace.

What Does The Eco Pack Do On The Ioniq 5?

For buyers of the Ioniq 5, the Eco pack is an optional feature that they can choose to install.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 Eco pack contains the following:

#1. Heat Pump

A heat pump in the Ioniq 5 provides the vehicle with another more energy-efficient method of heating the cabin.

As a result, less power is used from the engine to heat the vehicle’s interior. As a result, it extends the battery life.

Unlike vehicles that use petrol, electric cars do not generate enough unused power to adequately warm up the vehicle’s interior.

A heat pump heats the cabin by compressing Refrigerants under very high pressure and uses the heat produced to warm up the interior.

That means it will use less battery energy to power the heater, which consumes a lot of power.

Thus, a vehicle with the Eco pack containing Ioniq 5 will have a greater range than a vehicle without the heat pump.

The battery power of a car using the heat pump will be longer.

That is one of the functions of the Eco-Pack in Ioniq 5, although getting it along with your vehicle costs more than vehicles ordered with the Eco pack.

But its features can come in handy, especially during cold weather.

Once winter sets in, you’ll need an additional power source if you take your vehicle for long rides, especially if there’s no power to keep recharging your battery.

#2. Battery Heater

According to Hyundai engineers, the battery heater is installed so that the vehicle’s battery can always be at optimal temperature levels.

Although that will increase battery life and efficiency, in cold temperatures, the internal temperatures of the voltage pack could drastically reduce, or the battery can get frozen, and the voltage output could also reduce.

You can avoid all these issues with the battery heater.

However, the driver does not have control over the battery heater. The temperature of the engine determines the activities of the heater.

The heater is controlled automatically, and the driver cannot turn it off or turn it on.

Only vehicles with the Eco-Pack have a battery heater.

Other vehicle owners opted for the Tech Pack and not the Eco pack, which means they can access other features but not the battery heater. And other vehicles have neither.

Some vehicle owners have said that the heater does not work or works very slowly, while other users say that it works perfectly.

The battery heater comes on when the temperature is low and heats the battery in some cases. However, the process, in some cases, is slow and ineffective.

Is It Worth Buy The Eco Pack?

Ioniq 5 Eco Pack

The Eco pack has useful features; many users who’ve opted for the pack have attested to that.

However, potential buyers aren’t certain whether to include the Eco-Pack in their orders, go for the tech pack, or simply order the vehicle without any packages.

Although the Eco pack is not entirely useless, one can never be certain if the features are worth the extra cost of purchasing the Eco Pack.

The Eco pack is valuable in some ways:

  • The heat pump comes in handy when you’re going low on battery power, and you need to conserve the battery. With the heat pump, battery power does not heat the vehicle’s cabin, which gives the battery a more extended range.
  • In winter colds, the battery heater can be handy. Those are the two features that come with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Eco-Pack. However, you can only use the Eco-Pack on the Hyundai Ioniq Ultimate. The Eco pack battery heater system can also extend the vehicle’s battery.

On the flip side, it’s important to note that the heat pump is only important if you don’t get to charge the vehicle system often enough.

For example, if you drive your vehicle from home and don’t usually stay on the road for a long period, there is no need for the heat pump as the battery will always be well charged.

In that case, the extra cost you will incur to get the Eco pack may not be worth it because you may not use it.

Also, some other users have complained that the battery heater does not work very well. So getting it installed is probably a bad investment as it’s not doing what it’s meant to do.

Either way, whether the Eco pack is a good investment or not is mainly dependent on your needs, habits, and the kind of driver you are.

Finally, according to Hyundai’s news release on Hyundai Ioniq 5 specifications, models, and prices, the Ioniq 5 Eco-Pack costs £1,195.

At the same time, the Ioniq 5 itself will set you back North of over £42,000. Therefore, the Eco Pack costs an extra £1,195.

Summary

The Eco pack contains a battery heating system and a heat pump. And the Eco Ioniq 5 Eco-Pack can be ordered along with the vehicle at the buyer’s discretion.

The buyer decides that they don’t want the tech pack. However, getting the pack is more expensive than getting a vehicle without the Eco pack.
