Not only does it improve convenience in driving, but it also serves as a safety feature that helps improve safety for drivers and other road users. 

With the lane assist feature, vehicles now easily avoid bumping into each other needlessly, thus improving vehicle safety and looks.

Little wonder then that it is a feature of most modern vehicles. But if you have your eyes on the Chevy Silverado, can you anticipate lane assist?

Of course, the Chevy Silverado comes equipped with the lane assist feature. This mechanism monitors the position of your vehicle and others on the road and helps maintain balance when the car moves out of the lane. It does this by sending an alert to the driver or taking the initiative to return the vehicle to the former lane.

Does 2021 Chevy Silverado Have Lane Assist?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado has a high-tech Lane Assist system that monitors its position on the road and helps in keeping them in a lane while driving.

Once it begins to notice a change in the vehicle’s position, it sends a signal to the driver when he begins to leave his lane. 

In the 2021 Silverado, the signal will be a warning.

If the warning persists for long and the driver does nothing to respond to the alert, the system will return you to your initial position on the road as gently as possible.

How Does Chevy Lane Assist Work?

Lane Assist or Lane Keep Assist works by using a specially built camera at the upper part of the vehicle’s windscreen.

Its purpose is to assist the driver when moving from one lane to another when driving on the road, either by sending alerts or by taking over the brakes and steering from the driver and returning the Chevy to its initial lane. 

The Lane Assist activates when you’re spending more than 37mph. The sensor is always outside the vehicle and at the center for high and proper sensitivity.

Below is a step-by-step explanation of how this system works. Let’s go!

• Immediately the sensor detects that you’re turning either left or right, and you’re also moving at a speed higher than its operating speed; a Lane Keep Assists icon that’s green in color will display. The icon is a car diagram with two lines on its sides.

• If it assumes that your vehicle unintentionally wants to leave its lane, a Lane Keep Assist icon will display again. This time, it’ll be amber, not green. Simultaneously, a push back or nudge of the steering icon will display too. That is a sign that the Chevy is trying to maintain the vehicle’s position.

• If the nudge icon doesn’t inhibit the exiting of the lane, the amber color Lane Keep Assist icon will repeatedly flash as the car is leaving the lane. The flashing of the icon is a Lane departure warning alert.

If it’s unintentional, the vehicle returns to its initial lane.

If it’s not, the driver continues with the turn while the system offers steering assist without the lane departure warning or the steering vibrates, thereby issuing a safety driver assistance.

• When the system is still on but can no longer detect any lane, the Lane Keep Assist returns to its initial color – white.
• If the system notices that you may not be handling the steering, it displays an alert again, the take steering icon, but it won’t display that if you’re using the turning signal.
• Make use of the turn signal when switching lanes.

Sadly, specks of dirt and unfavorable weather conditions can hinder the good performance of the Lane Assist.

What happens when dirt, mud, snow, and water droplets cover the sensor. As a result, the Lane Keep Assist may deliver the wrong information to the driver.

What Is Included in The Chevy Safety Assist?

The Chevy Safety Assist includes the Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Intellibeam Distance Indicator, Lane Departure Warning, and the Following Distance Indicator. 

They’re all like driver-assist features in a car. They make driving easy and convenient, but their primary duty is to ensure improved safety for the vehicle.

So let’s discuss these features in miniature detail.

#1. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)

This feature uses radar or camera technology to identify when a collision wants to occur.

Then, as a safety system, it causes the brake to slow down the vehicle and prevent an anticipated collision.

#2. Front Pedestrian Braking

This system prevents collisions between pedestrians breaking the lane in front of your moving vehicle.

It makes you – the driver aware that there’s a Pedestrian ahead when you haven’t applied your brake. This system automatically applies the brakes when the vehicle is too close to the Pedestrian.

#3. Forward Collision Alert

This system warns the driver that stationary vehicles or slow-moving ones are ahead of him. The system detects this using lasers, cameras, or lasers that view the road as you drive.

Some Forward Collision Alert works as detectors for objects and animals too.

#4. Intellibeam Distance Indicator

Intellibeam Distance Indicator has sensory devices that detect the distance between your vehicle’s headlamps and the car moving in front of you or coming in your direction.

This feature works mainly at night when vehicle headlamps are turned on and deactivates when the headlamp are no longer in use.

#5. Following Distance Indicator

This indicator notifies you about the distance of the vehicle moving in front of you.

For example, the Following Distance Indicator gives information like the distance between the two cars and the time in seconds it will take you to cover that distance.

#6. Lane Departure Warning

This feature helps alert you when you’re leaving your lane while driving. It flashes or beeps on the dashboard as an indication to the driver.

However, this is different from a Lane Keep Assist because Lane Keep Assist prevents the vehicle from leaving its lane, while a Lane Departure Warning is just an alert when you’re leaving your lane.
